“The Urban Being: on the trails of Nuno Portas” it's a traveling exhibition commissioned for Guimarães 2012 - European Capital of Culture, about the work of one of the most important Portuguese architects: Nuno Portas. Through a system of three glass layers, we displayed pictures of the projects, technical drawings, and also covers and inside pages of various books where, essays written by Nuno Portas, had been published.
Working as part of a team under the artistic direction of Andrew on the exhibition about the renown Portuguese architect and urbanist, this collaboration involved the visual development, typographic layout and image treatment for the exhibition tables.

Paraphrasing Andrew Howard, it was the intention that the publication conveyed a particular aesthetic which could be describe as a working document; an aesthetic which attempted to reflect qualities and characteristics of the man – clear but not crisp, organised but not ordered, complex but not complicated, diverse, sometimes unpredictable, and above all plural and with depth. And so decisions about visual form followed. A book that was small enough to sit comfortably in your hands – intimate but extensive. A paper stock that deterred preciousness in both its texture and weight. A mix of typefaces (seven in all) and sizes, and treatments, to reflect plurality and epochs and to avoid systematization. A diverse mix of layouts for similar purposes. In all a graphic vocabulary which attempts to reflect a particular type of social and political complexity.

Almada Recta represents our tribute to the portuguese artist José de Almada Negreiros (1893-1970). Almada Negreiros played a primordial role on the implementation of modernist literature in Portugal along with Fernando Pessoa and Mário de Sá-Carneiro.
However, his contribution wasn't confined to literature. His bequest embraced diverse media from drawing and mural painting to tapestry. This display typeface was based on the drawings of Almada Negreiros for the title-sequence of the portuguese movie "A Canção de Lisboa" (1933). Specially encouraged by the 120 years of Almada Negreiros birth commemorations.

“After” is a short documentary film “about contemporary life in Auschwitz”, directed by Lukasz Konopa. Quoting the official description, it “portrays the theatre of everyday life (…) and captures the energies and activities of a world fascinated by this former concentration camp.” In collaboration with Joana Pestana, we designed the promotional poster and flyer. Reflecting about the two eras and contexts (concentration camp / museum) presented in the film, we decided to make a direct design approach on the poster through the insertion of two types of photographic stripes.

Portuguese Sound Archives refers to a still-growing music collection edited by the Portuguese label Tradisom.
What makes this collection important is the fact that it makes public the first sounds recorded in Portuguese music history. Together with Joana Pestana, we designed the covers for this collection
The font was based on the title sequence "A Canção de Lisboa" made by Almada Negreiros.

After Six Festival is a two day festival created to revitalize the night art scene in Antwerp. The Festival features 12 bands and 12 illustrators from different parts of the world. The event's concept is to unite these two fields.
To allow the public to explore the work of all the artists involved, the ticket was transformed into a pack containing an LP with silkscreened covers made by each of the illustrators allowing the exchange between the covers, a compilation of songs from the bands, a publication with the work of the illustrators and a personalized tote bag.

Interpretation of the poem "Navío de Espelhos" by Mario Cesariny. For the development of this publication, images from authors that influenced his work were used to create the illustrations.
The tale "MS. Found in a Bottle" by Edgar Allan Poe, was the main source of inspiration for the creation of this poem so it is always in the background.
